Donate for Fidya or Kaffara

What is Fidya and Kaffara, and when should it be given?

In certain cases, if you miss any days of fasting during Ramadan, you are required to give a form of charitable compensation called Fidya or Kaffara depending on the situation.

If you miss fasts for valid reasons and are unable to make them up later, for example in the case of chronic illness or old age, you must pay Fidya. Additionally, while scholars hold different opinions on the matter, it is preferable to give Fidya if you missed fasts due to other temporary reasons such as menstruation or pregnancy and did not make them up before the following Ramadan without a valid excuse.

On the other hand, for Ramadan fasts missed without a valid reason, Kaffarah must be given as compensation.

The amount paid for each missed fast in Fidya is equivalent to feeding one person whereas in Kaffara it is the equivalent of feeding 60 people.

To make it easier for you to fulfill these obligations, we have selected some charities that provide the option to donate specifically for Fidya or Kaffara to direct your contributions toward feeding those in need.
